Jane Cook grew up in New York City, surrounded by the artistic energy of the 1950s and 1960s, where new movements in painting and poetry took hold of her at an early age.
Her work is influenced, first by the astonishing beauty of the natural world, but also by the mid-century abstract expressionist and colorfield painters, such as Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell and William DeKooning.
